Stronger Together
Hello Families!
For those of you new to MLK, it has been a pleasure meeting you and your children! For those of you already a part of the MLK Family, WELCOME BACK!
I'd like to say September started our year off strong but in actuality, we started seeing many of our students in August. Our incoming Kindergarteners participated in our 3rd annual "Bridge to Kindergarten" program where they learned what being an MLK Lion is really about. They practiced things such as lining up and walking in the hallway, hanging up their belongings and getting out materials for lessons, and circle time on the rug. They even learned how to order lunch and carry their tray through the cafeteria to the tables. We ended the two week program with our "Commitment Ceremony" where students and families came to celebrate and "commit" to upholding the MLK values. It was a great success and we thank all families that participated.
We also held our annual "MLK Back to School Block Party" where 400+ of our closest friends came for BBQ, specialty coffee drinks, ice cream, clothing, sneakers, hair cuts, and more! All at no cost to our students. Thank you to our partners such as Price Chopper, BJs, Newest Lunch, Hannaford, City Mission, Stewart's, 7 Brew Coffee, and Union St. Barbers.
October will bring many fun traditions back to MLK along with new traditions. On Wednesday, October 2nd, at 6:30pm, we will hold our first ever OUTDOOR Movie Theater! That's right, we are turning our field into a movie theater. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and anything that makes it cozy for you to enjoy a showing of Coco. PTO will be selling refreshments for $2.00: Hotdogs, popcorn, drinks, chips, etc. There is no cost to get in and you are welcome to bring your own food with you if you'd like. We hope to see you there!
Last year, we decided instead of holding a winter concert in December - when life is extra busy - we would hold a fall concert on Halloween, October 31st. We invited the children to wear their costumes and sing for their families in the front courtyard. It was such a hit that we will continue the same this year. There will be light refreshments for the adults who attend. Times will be announced soon.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or compliments that I can pass on to my staff, don't hesitate to contact me at (518) 881-3680. I look forward to partnering with you for a successful school year.
Sincerely,
Kristin Munrett
