IB Language and Literature is Schenectady High School’s most rigorous English course. This international course allows students to not only study critical literature, but critical literacy with a focus on traditional texts as well as non-literary texts which may include movies, advertisements, Tiktok influencers, tweets, and other media forms. This course is organized into three areas of exploration and seven central concepts developing skills of literary and textual analysis. Students develop literary and textual analysis skills and learn to present their ideas effectively.   Students should be self-motivated and have a strong interest in literature and how words shape meaning in our lives.

This two-year course is designed to prepare students for the rigors of college and beyond. Students will become a part of a global community; assessments are graded and shared with our global community through the International Baccalaureate Program. This course is the most heavily weighted course for GPA calculation.
