ABSENCE (Teachers)

General

• A full-day substitute teacher is hired when a teacher who qualifies for a substitute teacher is absent for a full-day, taking a sick day, personal leave day, or school business day.
  

• A half-day substitute teacher is hired when a teacher who qualifies for a substitute teacher is absent for a half-day, taking a sick day, personal leave day, or school business day.
  

• Every classroom teacher, librarian, and special area teacher (excluding elementary instrumental music, math and language development, and speech teachers) shall be replaced by a competent substitute in the case of absence. 

Cancer Screening

In accordance with NYS law, employees are entitled to four hours of paid leave per calendar year for cancer screening.
