Athletic Director and Three New Winter Coaches Named

The Schenectady City School District is pleased to announce that Jason McFall has been selected to serve as the Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics.  The board of education approved his appointment on October 23, 2024.  He will begin in the district on November 12, 2024.

McFall is a seasoned athletic director with 24 years experience in athletic administration, teaching, and coaching at interscholastic and college levels.   Most recently he served as athletic director and physical education teacher at Berlin Central High School for
the last two years.  Prior to that, he served as a coach and athletic operations manager at the College of Staten Island, athletic director and teacher at Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem, head coach of men’s and women’s cross country track and field at Union County College, and from 2013-2015 was a physical education teacher at Harlem Village Academies. Since beginning his career, McFall has served at a wide breadth of schools, colleges and institutions.

McFall will replace the athletic leadership position vacated by Edgar Glascott who announced his retirement earlier in the year.

New Coaches in 2024-2025
The district is also pleased to share that on November 6, the board of education approved the appointment of the following new winter coaches for 2024-2025. 

Mark Sausville
Mark Sausville has been selected to serve as the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach for 2024-2025.  Most of the school community is familiar with Sausville.  He coached twelve varsity seasons at Schenectady High School beginning in 1998-1999.  Following that span, he finished with a record of 198-75 and his team won the 2001 New York State Title.  His teams also earned five Big 10 titles, and five seasons of 20 or more wins.  Sausville also served as an assistant coach on two state title teams - 1998 in Schenectady and 2014 at Scotia Glenville -  where he was the head coach from 2017 through the 2023-2024 School Year.

Sausville was a student athlete in Schenectady.  He played basketball and ran cross-country/track at Mont Pleasant High School from 1977-1980.

He has been teaching special education in Schenectady for 33 years.

Erica Knolhoff

Erica Knolhoff, a physical education teacher in Schenectady, has been selected as the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach for 2024-2025. Knolhoff is also the Schenectady Varsity Girls Soccer Head Coach. 

Over the years, Knolhoff  worked as a personal trainer, was assistant athletic director and served as the Varsity Girls Head Coach at Thales Academy Apex.  In 2018, Knoulhoff
was the athletic director at Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill, NC.

Knolhoff has been coaching for more than 16 years including at Hartwick College and Hesser College.  She oversaw the athletic program at Nashua Community College from 2010-2014 and was athletic director and coach at Hesser College from 2008-2010

Knolhoff has enjoyed many athletic accolades throughout her career.  She was a 4-year starter and captain from 2001-2003 on Division II Green Mountain College Women’s Basketball Team.  In 2014, she was inducted into the Green Mountain College Athletic Hall of Fame for her collegiate career playing soccer, basketball and softball.   She was also previously inducted in the Windham Ashland Jewett Central School Athletic Hall of Fame and the New York State Section IV Hall of Fame. 

Knolhoff was founder, director and player for a semi pro basketball team.  

Brianna Forkel
Brianna Forkel, a 5th grade teacher at Van Corlaer Elementary School, has been selected as the Varsity Girls Indoor Track Coach.  She graduated from The College of St. Rose in May 2023.  She was recruited by Saint Rose as a runner but could not participate due to COVID. 


Forkel ran indoor and outdoor track and field at the varsity level in grades 7-12 at Cohoes City School District.    She is excited to coach the girls indoor team and said
she looks forward to promoting a culture of hard work, resilience and
camaraderie.
