LEADERSHIP HANDBOOK

IMMUNIZATIONS

Every child entering or attending a District school must present proof of immunization in accordance with Section 2164 of Public Health Law unless: A New York State licensed physician certifies that such immunization may be detrimental to the child's health and declares a medical exemption.

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall develop procedures for parents/guardians to request such exemption.

Except for the above exemption, the District may not permit a student lacking evidence of immunization to remain in school for more than fourteen (14) days, or more than thirty (30) days for an out-of-state or out-of-country transferee who can show a good faith effort to get the necessary certification or other evidence of immunization. The 'good faith' piece is interpreted by NYSED as proof of scheduled appointments to obtain necessary age appropriate vaccine.

For children experiencing homelessness, the enrolling school will immediately refer the family to the McKinney Vento Homeless Liaison who will assist them in obtaining the necessary immunizations and documentation.

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall provide all reports necessary to State and local officials regarding compliance with immunization requirements.
