Karen Corona

Karen Corona has been leading communications in the Schenectady City School District for more than 20 years.  She began working in the district in January 1996.  Prior to coming to work in Schenectady, Corona worked in advertising and public relations in south Florida for six years.

In her role of district director of communication and public information, Corona oversees district communications and is responsible for communication strategy, branding, media and public relations, social networking, and marketing efforts.   She is a member of the superintendent’s cabinet. 

Over the years, Corona has and continues to serve on a variety of committees.  She is also a member of the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame committee.

Under Corona's leadership, Schenectady has earned recognition for a number of publications and digital media awards including an Award of Merit for the “Spotlight on Schenectady” from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).  She was also awarded an “Achievement in Education Communications Award of Honor” from the New York State Public Relations Association (NYSPRA) for a special publication she produced on the history of the district. Corona also served as a member of the city of Schenectady HOMES committee.  She was presented with an award from the city of Schenectady and Office of Fair Housing for supporting equal housing opportunities in the city of Schenectady.

Corona is a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
