Dr. Lorenda D.Chisolm was named assistant superintendent of teaching and learning in September 2021. Prior to coming to Schenectady, she served as Director of School Review in the Office of Shared Accountability in Buffalo Public Schools (BPS). She brought more than 15 years of experience in education, eight of those in school and district leadership. Chisolm is also an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Education at Medaille College. Prior to entering the field of education, she spent five years in law enforcement.
Chisolm fills a critical role in the planning, development and implementation of the district’s teaching and learning program and curriculum and instruction including the review of curriculum, course offerings, materials, projects, and professional development. She oversees the organization and planning for state and local assessments as well as the development of policies, regulations and procedures related to instructional programs. Chisolm is a member of the superintendent’s cabinet.
Chisolm is a member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the International School Leadership Development Network, and the University Council of Educational Administration. She is the proud mother of daughter in her third year of college, a member of St. John Baptist Church and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Chisolm obtained a B.A. in Psychology and Criminal Justice, a M.A. in Counseling and Human Services, and a M.S. in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Canisius College in Buffalo. She earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
