The Board of Education adopted the 2024-2030 "Schenectady 2030" Strategic Plan on October 23, 2024. You can review the plan here. The District Data Committee will work in conjunction with Schenectady stakeholders to develop a dashboard that visualizes the power metrics outlined within the plan. The plan is designed to be high-level and to provide over-arching system goals guided by the vision of the Schenectady City School District.

The district will continue to set annual goals, strategies, and progress monitoring measures aligned to the strategic plan in an effort to validate actions, monitor progress, and consider adjustment.

District and school leaders will refer to the plan and connect work and progress to the pillars of the plan.

What is a Strategic Plan? A strategic plan is a tool that defines where we want to go and what actions we need to take to achieve those goals. It's a map for our school district's growth and how we plan to get there. It provides clear direction for decision-making, resource allocation, evaluation, fostering alignment, and accountability across all levels of the organization.

Our plan was built on a strong foundation and included engagement with stakeholders from all corners of the community. Everyone in the school community was invited to provide input.

The drafted plan was developed after input was provided by students, faculty/staff, parents, and community members as follows:

  • Eight Community Listening Sessions (100 participants)

  • Student Focus Groups

  • School Leader Listening Sessions/ThoughtExchange

  • 275 Participant Survey Responses

  • Submissions in Let's Talk

  • Leadership Conversations

The top five priorities identified from the input is as follows:

  1. Safety

  2. Programs and Services (Wide Range of Learners)

  3. Rigorous Curriculum

  4. High-Quality Teachers

  5. Positive School Culture

A summary of some of the feedback is provided in the document.

Development of the Plan

In 2019, the district established a vision and values based on community input and collaboration. These remain relevant and will continue to drive district actions through the next six years.

The pillars of excellence were also established through that planning process, and remain critical to the success of the district.

Within each pillar, we have set new strategic priorities designed to accelerate the achievement of goals aligned with each of the four pillars, as well as "Schenequity" goals that will measure our success in closing equity gaps. We will continue to prioritize inclusivity and equity throughout implementation of the plan.

These goals and initiatives will drive district planning and priorities for the next six years.

The district began the development process by gathering data on how the district is performing. Based on a review of academics, operations, and feedback from the community, we identified areas for potential improvement.

Based on current performance, we set ambitious goals for school and student improvement. These goals were prioritized based on their relevance to community and school stakeholders, as well as impact on expanding opportunities for students.

District leadership identified several core strategies within each of the four pillars. Strategies were prioritized based on evidence and likelihood of success. Click on each of the pillars below for objectives and goals for each.
