Tyrone O'Meally was named executive director of secondary schools in December 2021. Prior to coming to Schenectady, he served as high school principal in the Greater Amsterdam School District since 2018. Prior to that he was a middle school principal and secondary summer school principal in Troy for three years. Before becoming a school administrator, O’Meally worked as a secondary social studies teacher for eight years and simultaneously as a data liaison team leader and parent outreach coordinator. From 2003 – 2006, O’Meally served as program director of the Troy Family YMCA where he earned the Capital District YMCA’s Award of Excellence. He later served as teen program advisor, coordinator, and volunteer at the YMCA from 2009-2016.
In the role of executive director of secondary schools, O’Meally serves as a leader to school principals with a focus on increasing instructional leadership capacity and developing a culture of support. He works one-on-one and partners with the district’s middle and high school leaders to support using data to improve practice, strategies, and results. He also collaborates with the executive director of elementary schools to ensure a collaboration and a seamless transition program for students as they move through the system. Part of O’Meally’s work includes collaborating with administrators to be sure work is aligned with the district’s strategic plan.
O’Meally earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Minor in Economics from Hartwick College, a Master of Science in General Education Studies from the University at Albany, and Building Leader Certification from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
