Step-by-Step Guide to Hiring
Certificated Teaching Staff
The Department of Human Resources procedure for staffing vacant teacher positions in your buildings is as follows.
1. Consult with the Executive Director for Elementary/Secondary schools, as applicable, as soon as you are made aware of a vacant instructional, paraprofessional or secretarial position in your building and/or the need for a new position. For O&M positions, contact the Chief of Facilities & Operations. For safety positions, contact the Director of School Climate and Safety.
2. Once you have approval from the appropriate district leader, you must submit a vacancy requisition request through SchoolFront.
3. Once the request for a vacancy is approved by all appropriate district leaders, Human Resources will then post the position.
4. Once the timeframe for the posted position has expired, you may start interviewing candidates.
5. Forward the interview details to the Subject Area Director/Supervisor and HR Staffing Manager, prior to the interview date.

You may want to have a school-based interview team involved in the selection process.
The school-based interview team should consist of the following:
Principal, Assistant Principal Teacher from the same subject area, Teacher within the building
Once the interviews are completed, email the interview rubric(s) to the Subject Area Director/Supervisor and HR Staffing Manager along with the name of the selected candidate.
The Subject Area Director/Supervisor will consult with HR and the to initiate the hiring process.
If the candidate credentials and fingerprint clearances are in order, you must coordinate the start date with your Subject Area Director/Supervisor after HR has completed the onboarding process.
