The Schenectady City School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Leah Kedley has been selected to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement, effective July 1, 2024.
Kedley joined Schenectady schools in March 2023 as the substitute principal of Hamilton Elementary School. In June of the same year was named the permanent principal at the school.
“I remain in awe of how much we were able to do as a team and how fantastic the people at Hamilton truly are,” said Kedley. “I look forward to working to meet student needs and to continue closing the achievement gap.” She added, “My goal will continue to be to serve our school community and meet the needs of our students, so they can thrive in both their academic and social-emotional growth.”
Kedley started her career as a kindergarten teacher nearly 20 years ago. She then spent five years as an assistant principal and, prior to coming to Hamilton, was a principal in Rochester for two years.
As Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity, and Engagement, Kedley will serve as a key member of the superintendent’s executive leadership team. She is responsible for implementation of key programs, priorities, initiatives and engagement with the school community. Kedley is responsible for continuing the implementation of community schools, promoting the district’ equity, diversity, and inclusion goals, and addressing culture and climate matters.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Kedley to the executive leadership team,” said Dr. Carlos M. Cotto, Jr., Superintendent of Schools. “She has stood out as the principal at Hamilton and continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to Schenectady students and the school community,” said Cotto. “I am confident she will continue to effectively advance the efforts of the IEE department forward.”
The assistant superintendent position was vacated by Cotto when he was selected as district superintendent in March.
The Board of Education approved the appointment of Kedley at the June 5 meeting.
