Note from Dr. Cotto
Dear SCSD community,
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share that Schenectady High School 9th grader Dubar Knowles passed away Saturday evening due to injuries sustained in a tragic incident. We are all extremely sad about this unthinkable news and extend sincere condolences to Dubar’s family, friends and all who knew him.
We expect a variety of reactions to this loss and will have our support team ready. Social workers and counselors will be on hand and available at school on Tuesday for anyone who needs support and to talk. We've also listed some community resources above.
Additionally, we regret to inform you that an Oneida 8th grader was also injured in the same incident. We wish her a speedy recovery and will remain in contact with her family.
Both students attended a party in Schenectady on Saturday evening. Police continue to investigate and are asking for the public’s assistance. If you have any information, please call 518-788-6566.
This is an extremely difficult time for our school community. Let’s work together and support one another. If you are concerned about a student, please contact your school counselor so we can provide support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carlos M. Cotto, Jr.
Superintendent of School
