Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
We are writing to let you know that beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, New York State schools are required to notify parents, students, and staff when an evacuation or lockdown drill will take place. We will send you an email and/or text notification letting you know that a drill will be scheduled within the week. These exercises are not designed to frighten children but are to ensure that all adults and children know what to do in the event of an actual safety event. Drills will never include props, actors or mimic any type of incident of violence. We will be talking with students about upcoming drills, what to expect, and why they are important. After we conduct any type of drill, we will send you follow-up notification, letting you know that the drill was held. If you have changed your contact information recently, be sure your school has your correct information on file.
Please see the attached Standard Response Protocol guidance for parents in the event of a safety-related incident, and a description of specific actions or protocols that can be implemented during an incident.
Safety is always our top priority. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe,
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey J. Russo
