Letter to Families Regarding Accelerated Course Work

Dear Families,

We’re excited to share the benefits of advanced classes, offering a more challenging course of study for those who are ready, and guide you on how to prepare and enroll your child in these opportunities. Positive attendance, good grades, and student interest set the stage for accessing advanced classes, starting in 7th grade in our Middle Schools.

Starting in 7th grade, we offer an advanced math course, and in 8th grade, we provide accelerated courses in both science and math. Detailed course descriptions can be found in our high school course catalog, available online here.

Advanced classes allow students to challenge themselves academically, delve deeper into subjects of interest, and prepare for future academic and career pursuits. Students are encouraged to engage in enrichment activities and seek guidance and support from school counselors and teachers as needed. Attendance is crucial for academic success, and we urge you to sign up for Infinite Campus, our student information system, to monitor your child’s attendance, assignments, and grades. You can do so by going here to our website.

Recognizing that success in advanced classes may require additional support, our school district provides comprehensive services, including tutoring, study skills workshops, and counseling. Financial assistance may also be available to cover any associated costs. We provide this notification annually to all students starting in 6th grade, and this information is also posted on our school district website for easy reference.

Please reach out to your child’s middle school counselor to determine if an advanced math, science, or language course is suitable for your child. Together, we can support our students in achieving their highest academic potential.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rebecca DeVries, Ed.D.
